OCSBA Mission Team Member Covenant

As you prepare for your mission trip, please remember that the person best equipped to minister in a cross-cultural setting is the person who is spiritually prepared. No matter what task you will be undertaking, a servant’s attitude is the most important asset you can have. The Christ-like attitude will help you to minister and be ministered. It will also help you to be flexible as you face cultural challenges and language barriers. During your mission trip, we challenge you to strive to be an encouragement and a testimony to your fellow team members as well as the missionaries and nationals with whom you will come into contact. To further ensure a successful trip that will (1) maintain a God-honoring standard for the team and OCSBA, (2) portray a proper testimony to all people impacted by the team, and (3) have a vital impact on each team member and your sending church, we have established the following guidelines:

• Exhibit a servant attitude.

• Pray for other team members and others participating on the mission trip(s).

• Participate fully in all team preparation and evaluation activities.

• Practice punctuality.

• Offer grace to my fellow team members, especially to the team leader(s).

• Be flexible and fluid in every circumstance (hot, cold, rain, travel, delays, lay-overs, etc.)

• Fully submit to team leadership and the guidance of on-site nationals.

• Be a team player, encourager, and supporter.

• Accomplish whatever tasks assigned whether on the project site(s), at housing and accommodations, or while traveling as “unto the Lord.”

• Be willing to abstain from conduct, as requested by team leaders, which might be offensive to others or may be contrary to a clear testimony for Jesus Christ, realizing customs vary greatly from culture to culture. In particular, team members are asked to refrain from all use of tobacco, alcoholic beverages (this includes wine and beer), or abusive drugs.

OCSBA International Mission Team Release

In consideration of my participation in the International Mission Team of OCSBA, I hereby release, discharge, and agree to hold harmless OCSBA (Orange County Southern Baptist Association, its officers, trustees, employees, agents, administrators, successors and churches from any and all claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, actions and causes of actions, present or future, on account of injuries to my person or property, including injuries, accidents or illnesses which could result in my death, arising out of or in connection with my participation in the OCSBA International Mission Team. I agree to indemnify OCSBA for all costs and expenses incurred by OCSBA, including attorneys’ fees, as a result of any claims made which are released in this document.

I understand that travel outside the United States of America could pose unusual risks to my person and property, which could include but not be limited to forces of nature, civil unrest, terrorism, means of transportation not operating according to standards common in the United States, legal requirements or actions of foreign governments, contagious or unusual illness, inadequate availability to medicine or medical care, or negligent or willful conduct on the part of others. I therefore agree to undertake such risks in order to participate in this program, and I assume the risk of the consequences of any and all such actions.

I agree that I have no physical, mental or medical condition that would prohibit or unreasonably restrict my participation in this program or activity. This release shall be binding upon myself and all my representatives, heirs, successors or assigns.

I give my consent for OCSBA, its employees, agents, representatives and partners to arrange for emergency medical, surgical and dental care and treatment necessary to preserve my health while I am a participant in this program. I acknowledge that I am responsible for all charges that may be incurred in connection with any care of treatment given.
